Trenan D'or

Mage Guild scribe Visionary Tarroth Gale. wrote:

The man who once held the spot the Phantasmal Deceit was Trenan D'or He went insane as he developed literally hundreds of multiple personalities to match his ever-changing appearance. Evil and twisted, he spawned a good counterpart when the rest of the mages accidentally spawned evil ones in the mishap experiment in Immortality that gave life to the Immortal Shades.
The single good Shade quietly took the seat of Architect and passed himself as Trenan for so long no one knew there was a switch, at least not until last year when the Shades resurfaced, returned from a self-imposed exile they'd faced for hundreds of years.
Each Shade is tied to each Architect that spawned it. Most of the those Architects are spread all over the world, very few are current Architects nor are they in Ramsalon This tie or bond between Architect and Shade means that each suffers and dies with the other.
The evil Trenan D'or took his own life and managed to take a relative of the Architect Eylion Daerlage (the council seat of the True Pith, known also as Decay) to the grave with him. He also took the good Shade, the nameless soul who so long masqueraded as Trenan and held the seat of the Phantasmal Deceit.. in fact, his deceit lasted so long that he was the Deceit longer than the original Deceit!

The original passage that described the mysterious Deceit is as follows:
*Name, Race and Age variable and unknown. One of the original members of the Architects there are none that actually know the name, race or age of this being. Appearing as whatever he or she wants to appear it is known only that the powers of illusion have never been so strongly wielded in the history of the world. This seat itself is a mystery, as there is very little way to determine if the person in the seat is the same person that was in the seat at the last meeting. Attempts within the guild to track down the whereabouts and true identity of this seat member have all come up with dead ends, illusions so powerful that they give off their own life energy, and just when it is thought the truth will be known, the illusion gives a smile, a bow and then evaporates into nothing. It is however a known fact that this Architect is always willing to help and has in fact been busy for the past five hundred years adding illusionary diagrams, charts, graphs, maps, blueprints and other useful items to the tomes and scrolls within the guild libraries. To read about the ancient cities is one thing, to be able to utter a string of words and have a visualization of the city appear before your eyes is another.*

The Sun Has Set For Amurel

Once the Architect of the Setting Sun, Jonas Amurel Belange lost his seat on the Council with the advent of his death. He lost it in the most honorable way, giving up his own life so that others might live during the recovery of the Scepter of Water in Necromos' Throne Room.
For posterity, the description of that great mage shall here remain.

Old description: *The Setting Sun: Jonas Amurel Belange. A.k.a. “Terras”, “The Cloaked One”, “Jonas the Mad”, and “Amurel”. There are other names as well, but those are the ones he most frequently goes by. The MG knows him officially by his full name, though members are as like to call him any of his nicknames as well. Male human, age unknown. It’s possible that he’s no longer in the same body, though if that rumor is true, he’s very old indeed. The current body has been kept alive through magical means, sometimes quietly powered by stolen life forces. He is known to have used the spirits of the fallen to power his own dark spells or to extend his own life. He claims not to go out of his way to do such things. First and foremost Jonas is a necromancer, a powerful channeler of the energies of the dead. He is able to keep the spirit energies intact, or to break them down and make use of their energies as a fuel for his spells. Jonas’ secondary skill in geomancy is also fairly impressive. He is often associated quite incorrectly with air magic because he rides a large and very speedy flying carpet. This is wholly the work of the carpet and not of Jonas. Gone some 70 years, Jonas spent a great deal of time with a Nethar magess; she was his significant other as well as his colleague for decades. Her recent death has prompted his return to the Ramsalon area.*
Rest thee well, Amurel.

Merecla Dassa

Merecla Dassa

Mage Guild scribe Visionary Tarroth Gale. wrote:

Merecla Dassa Female half Demon, Age Unknown. The current variable Architect, Merecla is an intelligent and fiery Demon Summoner from a country beyond the Kadrass. Her accent is thick and seductive and the courses she instructs within the guild halls are always full, most often filled by the younger, male members of the guild. Her body is unique to her alone, the torso of a beautiful and shapely human female, generally clad rather scantily, flowing black hair in spiral curls flows down her chest and back until reaching her extremely unique lower body. Rather then the legs of a mortal she has the lower regions of the darker half of her parentage, a demon. Like a millipede she has several hundred small legs, each of which ends in a hoofed foot, and while her movements within the guild are silent one can only wonder what her movements would sound like in a less magical place, hundreds of hoofed foots clattering along cobblestone is something no one really wants to think about. The Architects determined she should join them some time ago when she aided in the capture and destruction of a lesser demon that had been let loose by a cult somewhere in Candenord. With her help the threat was put down swiftly and without loss of mortal life. She is a master demon summoner, able not only to bring them forth at will but able to confine them to a protective circle allowing her to study them and document their strengths and weaknesses against magics archane and diety based. She has additional talents in the realm of mind control and seduction as well as an entirely unused skillset based on her demon side, unholy flames, dark magics and powerful nocturn forces she would rather not tap into. She knows that she will one day be replaced and at that time will have no problem stepping aside and into a regular guild member role.

Mage Guild scribe Visionary Tarroth Gale. wrote:

The Great Deep: Shaelia Calypse female mermaid, age unknown. She refuses to give her age, or her story for that matter. But the Council elders trust her. Maybe she told it all once, and once was enough. Shaelia may not even be a mermaid. Some people are suspicious. From time to time she shifts into a two leg form, but doesn’t seem to enjoy it much. She walks into the guild with legs, but is quick to take her scaled lower half once she gets back to a pool of water. Her soft cream-colored skin has a hint of orange to it and her long hair is platinum blonde; her eyes are the bluest blue. She’s a beauty. She apparently has some means of getting directly into the guildhall from the Kadras. The meeting halls have large koi ponds set up. These are for Shaelia. Shaelia dabbles in biomancy and shape shifting, but of course her guild-recognized skills are in the sphere of hydromancy. She was rumored to once have been seen swimming off into the deep minutes before one of the most devastating tidal waves in recent history swamped dozens of boats in the harbor at Ish-Lavin many years ago. Among the dead was an infamous pirate known to have captured a young mermaid, forced her into sex acts, and to have then sold her off to a brutal carnival freak show where she soon died of mistreatment and dehydration. No coincidence.. or so the story goes.

The Blazing Sun: Monmooud Arieelde Male half elf, age 53. Hails from Dawnport, or so he says. This year marks Monmooud’s 30th with the Mage Guild A short tenure thus far, and destined to stay that way. It’s amazing the man has stayed alive this long. You could certainly refer to his temperament as fiery. He’s a man of average size and build, about five feet nine inches tall. His skin is a rich, dark brown and his black hair falls in dreadlocks about his shoulders. He tends to wear very little even in the winter, often sporting a pair of dark green knee-length shorts, a necklace with a hanging sun medallion, a pair of dark brown leather sandals, and little else. His eyes are amber in color, almost seeming to reflect the fire within him. His high cheekbones and slightly peaked ear, as well as the unusual eye color, hint at his elven heritage. He is boisterous, outspoken, aggressive and confrontational. He is quick to judge and even quicker to hurl fire at anything that gets in his way. The guild has had to cover his tracks on more than one occasion. He is fond of telling people that it’s “better to burn out than fade away”. His magic is of course the magic of fire. He has dabbled in enchanting and healing, but his true strength are his fire magics. His primary skill is blisteringly offensive and exceedingly dangerous. The same could be said of the man himself.

Gloinir Mubrylla

Gloinir Mubrylla
Gloinir Mubrylla is a former Architect of the First Loam. Left his seat on good terms in late 3011 to return to Kundul He is now ranked as Quondam (a Visionary with the distinction of having once been an Architect).

Mage Guild scribe Visionary Tarroth Gale wrote:

Gloinir Mubrylla Male Dwarf, 450 years. A rather startling addition to the Architects and one that caused a severe uproar in the elven portion of the guild has proved to be one of the most pleasant and easy to get along with members in the history of the council. For as long as Gloinir can remember he has had the ability to manipulate the earth around him. As a young dwarf the realization of his power came into light when during a massive mine collapse the earth seemed to melt and flow around Gloinir and his companions, saving them all from certain death and displaying the might of what Gloinir truly was. Elevated as a hero in the dwarven society from which he hails he caught the attention of The Seeing Eye as they sought out a replacement for The First Loam. An envoy was sent to the ruler of Gloinir’s people and deals were made, in exchange for Gloinir the guild would provide his people with a fresh water spring, alleviating the need for the dangerous task of finding, and controlling an existing fresh water spring. Gloinir has been with the Architects for nearly two hundred years and has changed the outlook on Dwarves that many of the elven guild members had upon their entry into the guild. Gloinir has also ‘unlocked’ talents in the fire sphere as well as shown promise at one day developing powerful hydromancy skills if he wished to move in that direction. Not much of a reader, Gloinir is often found building model cities using his magics.

Daylia Massencourt

Daylia Massencourt
Daylia Massencourt was a half Nethar half-demon who served as the Mage Guild's Architect of the Perfect Umbrage for an unknown number of years (likely several hundred) until her death. Along with most of the other Ramsalon Architects, she disappeared from the Guild on urgent business shortly after some of the Ish Lavin Architects disappeared and some of Ish Lavin's Initiates were killed.
She later reappeared to summon Sidahlia Nenru to the Shadow Realm to discuss something with her on the 26th day of Volnar 3011 AC. When Sidahlia arrived, Daylia attacked her, being controlled by some unknown force, and used the vastness of her control over the Shadow Realm to deal her companion a serious wound. Sidahlia, among the most powerful of the Architects, was forced to kill Daylia in self-defense.

Written before the time of her death

Mage Guild scribe Visionary Tarroth Gale wrote:

The Perfect Umbrage: Daylia Massencourt, female ½ nethar, ½ demon. Believed to be over 2,000 years old. Her name has changed many times, but it’s been Daylia for at least 300 years now. She seems to like having a name that brings rather different expectations of an appearance that is just not easy on the eye. Her demon half gives her bat-like wings of a deep, leathery red that her arms melt into. The wings are extremely pliable and she still has full use of her arms, but the wings are attached and fold in like an umbrella when not outstretched. Her leathery skin is a dark red the color of congealed blood and her face is crushed in like a bat’s, with smashed flaring nostrils and tiny, beady black eyes. Her mouth is not tiny however, and sports shark-like rows of spiny teeth when she opens it. Her mouth bulges a little as if she has trouble holding it closed for all the teeth. She has the peaked ears of a dark elf and the shock white hair common among some of the nethar. She stands at about five feet six inches tall. She is fond of wearing dresses since it forces men to see her as a woman rather than as a creature. She enjoys the discomfort this causes. Her inclusion among Architects is a result of her tremendous powers of shadow. With a variety of skills she seems able to do most anything with the stuff of darkness. A skilled assassin if she chooses to be, she has been blamed for many unsolved murders that bear the mark of true professionalism. Not all of the blame is misplaced. Her voice sounds like breaking glass if you slowed the sound down and added bass. She’s not exactly the MG poster child for a better, brighter image.

Gileas Greyreach

Gileas Greyreach
Gileas Greyreach was the Architect of the Unwoven Tapestry, and therefore a member of the Grand High Council of Architects of Ramsalon serving for centuries--or perhaps millennia--until his death on the 40th of Volnar 3011. A particularly gifted Chronomancer, Gileas had talents in a couple of other magical schools that he did not advertise, and also in a number of non-magical arts such as horsemanship, surgery, art preservation, and history. He was equally well-known for his arrogance and the fact that he was much, much older than he appeared.

Race: Elf
Age: 1,875
Appears: 20
Gender: Male

Background
Gileas was born in Jorkana At least, that's what he told people. It was a long time ago, that's for certain. Wherever he lived, it's a pretty sure bet that the people there don't remember him anymore. And if anyone was around who could remember, they'd know him by some other name. He long ago came to Ramsalon, and worked various jobs over the course of his long life. He spent many years preserving art, working on ways to protect it from the ravages of time. He eventually became obsessed with defeated time in general when he realized that his preserved objects eventually started to show signs of age... as did he. So he sought to preserve his own life in order to buy time to preserve art. The lines were blurred long ago, and he continued fighting against time. It was a battle he was bound to lose, and indeed, he did. Time is patient, to say the least. Long a member of the Mage Guild of Ramsalon after starting his study of chronomancy, Gileas worked his up in the ranks. His brilliance was indisputable and his power considerable. His personal skills could use a little work.

Personality
Gileas was self-confident to the point of arrogance. Actually, he was arrogant on several levels. He offered few allegiances and fewer friendships. He enjoyed speaking to intelligent people, and would at the least be happy to have them as acquaintances. He was not very patient with people of average intelligence, and usually condescending to those of relatively low intelligence.

Description
Gileas looked quite young, perhaps an elf of 100 years. Something about the look was unnatural, and the eyes belied his youthful appearance. He had dark hair and steel blue eyes (making his claim to be Jorkanian a little unusual) and a fairly slender frame. His eyes danced with life, energy, and intellect. His clothes were always tasteful and in good repair, though he didn't pay too much attention to current trends in fashion.

Death
Gileas died on the 40th day of Volnar, 3011. The official announcement stated that he succumbed to an illness, though Visionary Andrew Lantare knew that Gileas was instead planning to kill himself in order to destroy his Shade, one of the last (or perhaps the last) remaining true Shades. Many of the other Architects almost certainly suspect that the official story is a cover up, though even they were not privy to the truth.

Sabana Morwen

Sabana Morwen
Sabana Morwen is a Pain Mage and current Architect of the New Moon of the Ramsalon Mage Guild She was recruited to this position by Visionary Andrew Lantare, sent on the task by Gileas Greyreach Architect of the Unwoven Tapestry. The Grand Council had had its eye on Sabana for quite some time, but as a recluse living within No Man's Land, she was difficult to contact and even more difficult to deal with.

She had a reputation among villages on the border of No Man's Land for being a "hedge witch" who would come out of the jungle at night to steal their wives and children to practice her dark magic on. The reason for the reputation was not difficult to understand: the yard of her hut in the jungle was adorned with spikes on which the corpses, heads, and limbs of various animals--and some humans--were put on gruesome display, perhaps as a warning to the jungle's more dangerous denizens.

As it happened, Sabana's reputation was unwarranted. While she is indeed a skilled practitioner of some of the Dark Arts, she was guilty only of summoning a number of Wraiths and demons that she ultimately found difficult to dispel; they had managed to get away from her long enough to build up a following of worshipers who performed rituals and sacrifices in their name, which rooted them more firmly to this dimension. She was assisted by Andrew in rooting out the cultists from their makeshift temple in the ruins of Aryanthia and dispelling the creatures she had summoned, a demon and a pair of wraiths. With her task completed, she consented to join the Guild as its next Architect of the New Moon.

In addition to her Pain Magic, Sabana is well-versed in a number arts including Blood Magic, Biomancy, Demonism, Necromancy, and Vivisection.

Personality
Sabana is... interesting. People who learn about her talents tend to instantly assume she's a bad person, but really she's just... very devoted to her research. Very devoted. Somewhere, long ago, a woman who wanted to learn more about the Forbidden Arts began practicing them; lines were crossed, and then blurred, and then vanished. She's not the type of person who really cares what other people think of her, either, so the usual "social restrictions" on learning dark magics need not apply. But she's not a bad person, not really.
Sabana is very fidgety and distant. She looks at the world as if seeing things that other people don't see, and occasionally stops in mid-sentence as if being spoken to by someone nobody else can hear. This tends to make her a little forgetful, though her brilliance is no less for that.

Description
The one thing that can truly be said about Sabana is that she's a very creepy individual. Her skin is pale from lack of sunlight, which only serves to accentuate the midnight black of her hair and eyes. The way those eyes are set in her round face on her long neck, the way she looks distantly at everything around her as if seeing things that nobody else can see, give her the appearance of a gangly white bird constantly examining a worm.

Her fashion sense might be what we consider "goth"--black dresses of silk adorned with ample dark lace are the clothing of choice, usually similar enough to each other as makes no difference. She does always wear a strange necklace, an intricate web of black spidersilk thread and black beads, which rests starkly against her ivory skin. There is something... vaguely pretty about Sabana, but it's in a very off-putting sort of way. More accurately put, she's the type of woman you know *would* be pretty if she had a little more colour and a little more modern taste in clothes. Most of her skin is covered by her dark dresses, but what those dresses actually conceal are what appear to be surgical scars all over her arms, chest, and abdomen.

Background: Not a great deal is known about Sabana Morwen's past, or about the woman in general as point of fact. Rarely straying too close to civilization, she tends to hang out in or near secluded rural communities, where she often obtains a reputation as a hedge witch or something equally unfriendly. People have a tendency to go missing when she's around, too, though nobody has ever been able to prove that Sabana was responsible. Of course, the fact that she all but refuses to deal with people has never exactly helped those rumours.

Pain Resistance: (90) Sabana has sampled her own wares... a bit too often. More than a bit, perhaps. She has certainly drawn out her own pain before, and there are scars on her body that suggest she may even have been crazy enough to try autovivisection, too. As a result, pain is nothing to her.
Exopsychosis: (85) An odd combination of illusion and empathy, this is the ability to make people believe things are there that aren't. They can see and hear things that aren't there, feel things that they shouldn't be feeling.
Necromancy: (80) The art of communing with, summoning, and controlling the dead. This can be used to stuff spirits into corpses, creating various types of Undead creatures, or to communicate with them, or even to banish them entirely.
Rituals: (60) Magics like Sabana's... often benefit from a little ritualism. Drawing arcane circles, arranging occult artifacts, christening a victim with your own blood... that sort of thing can go a long way.
Blood Magic: (90) The magical ability to manipulate blood, including moving it, redirecting its flows, and changing its physical qualities.
Vivisection: (70) A very rare and precise art, vivisection is the non-magical surgical ability to induce pain as precisely as possible, on a very extended scale. The idea is to keep a victim alive, but in extreme pain, for as long as possible, in order to draw out energy that can be used for pain magic or particularly dark necromancy.
Pain Incarnate: (105) Pain Magic: The ability to inflict pure, unaltered pain on others, and to draw power from that pain. Every time she wounds something that can feel pain using this magic, that pain produces a bonus for her next spell. The bonus only lasts for one round, however, and is noncumulative.
Intimidation: (70) Sabana is just plain creepy. Enough said.
Biomancy: (80) Transformative Biomancy, allowing Sabana to manipulate the cells and tissues of the body and transform them. This can not be used to heal or harm, though certain (quite difficult) transformations can be... very difficult to live with.
Demonism: (75) A general knowledge and magical ability for communing with demons. This involves summoning them, binding them, controlling them, studying them, and banishing them.

Active Date: 2 August 2010 Sabana is frequently followed by a number of undead or demonic spirits that she conjures up to study and occasionally forgets to banish. There is one that she keeps around almost like a pet, a powerful shade she calls Mordechai.
