 | Defabrication Engineer Stoss Kovacs is somewhat perplexed that it says there are about 45,000 people housed in the Residential District, while it can only hold a maximum of about 10,000. Suspects the numbers are reversed, or that the one really means 4,500.
Kovacs much prefers apartments. He lived in a house in when he was younger, but he prefers being able to look out the window and look down on everyone. No, that’s not it. He prefers not having to shovel snow off his driveway. No, that’s not it, pretty sure that’s not even a concern in this city at all. He prefers, um, not having to deal with lawns. That might be part of it. He prefers not to be rattling around by himself in a big ol’ house, which makes him feel lonely, he much prefers to have exactly as much space as he needs, and no more. I think that’s it, actually. I think that’s precisely it. He likes danger and excitement, he doesn’t like loneliness. So he tries to have somebody sharing his apartment as often as possible, too. Only temporary arrangements. One night at a time.
